Industry Day at SAMT 2007
Industry Day

SAMT 2007 addresses the need of bringing semantics closer to multimedia analysis and understanding, thus examining how knowledge can penetrate into the retrieval process of audiovisual content. The media industry is one of the most immediate candidates to benefit from the future maturity of such technologies, but several other industrial sectors can be influenced as well. Although contents and their use are different, the need to store, browse and search information opportunely is common to all the fields.

The Industry Day will present different experiences working with multimedia content giving the possibility to compare the methodologies used, and showing how problems and solutions traditionally applied to broadcasting media are also applicable to several sectors, where the content is not only audiovisual but also includes 3D digital shapes.

It is easy to observe that multimedia, if seen in the broader sense, are adopted in every day life in several fields, such as medicine, security, and gaming. According to the application context, the user can be interested in different views of the digital content. Any view refers to specific semantics to be preserved and retrieved, although the technological approach to formalise and exploit such knowledge can be common to the contexts.

The Industry Day is thus organised to enable content and solution providers, broadcasters, professional content users, and related industrial practitioners to share and exchange experience about relevant multimedia and semantic analysis technologies and associated commercial software in various sectors.

A number of presentations from internationally renowned experts in multimedia and knowledge technologies are complemented with talks from prestigious representatives from media users in specialised fields giving an overview both from the research and commercial point of view, matching the industry needs to expected technology advances. The possibility of illustrating the use of emerging technologies and for demonstrating relevant existing commercial applications will be given.

Potential benefits to delegates include:

  • learning about key advances in integration of multimedia and knowledge technologies from leading experts in these areas
  • learning about the requirements in different application contexts, which will inspire new research directions and development perspectives
  • discovering the practical benefits of implementing these technologies in their work flows, products and applications
  • attending demonstrations of existing applications that may be applicable to their own work
To participate

The participation to the Industry Day is free of charge. Pre-registration is recommended: please send an email to samt07-id@ge.imati.cnr.it.
