Albert Gauthier

Albert Gauthier works at the European Commission in Luxembourg, at Directorate General Information Society and Media. The mission of his unit is to promote and manage research, development and innovation activities related to Internet content, interactive media and knowledge technologies.

His team supports the development of semantic-based and context-aware technologies. They are also entrusted with research on technologies to support the creation of new forms of digital content.

Multimedia Search: a power broker in the Networked Media Age

Luis Rodriguez-Rosello

Luis Rodriguez-Rosello holds a degree of Telecommunications Engineering (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid). After some years of professional activity as engineer at a private company and as full professor at the Faculty of Telecommunications Engineering in Madrid on Computer Science and Control Systems, he was Director of the Research and Development Department at the ITE (Institute for Technologies in Education) of the Ministry of Education in Spain and later on Head of the International Department of the CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnologico e Industrial).

He joined the European Commission in 1989 as Head of Division in Directorate-General "Telecommunications, Information Market and Exploitation of Research" as responsible for the R&D Programme DELTA (Developing European Learning through Technological Advance). He also headed the Educational Multimedia Task Force of the European Commission. He was acting Director in 2003 and 2004 of Directorate "Emerging Technologies, Infrastructures. Applications" of Directorate General Information Society, a new Directorate he had been entrusted to set up. Domains of responsibility encompassed basic research (Future and Emerging Technologies), Grid Technologies, Research Infrastructures and application areas related to eInclusion and eWork. End 2004 he was appointed Head of the Unit of Networked Audiovisual Systems which became "Networked Media Systems" in the current EC Framework Programme for R&D.
